I took it quite personally, because although "fun" isn't my goal, I don't want her to despise it. Then, in conversation, I realized something. "School" to her was the fifteen minutes of copywork she had to do and the math practice. Not the learning part, just the worksheet I had her fill out to practice what we had already done. Everything else was just life. And she didn't have a problem with that. Last year, my daughter informed me she hated school. I took it quite personally, because although “fun” isn’t my goal, I don’t want her to despise it.

Then, in conversation, I realized something. “School” to her was the fifteen minutes of copywork she had to do and the math practice. Not the learning part, just the worksheet I had her fill out to practice what we had already done.

Everything else was just life. And she didn’t have a problem with that.
