With respect to starting sewing and having the fabric pulled into the plate, a friend gave me a tip. Take a small remnant of doubled fabric (2" by 1 1/2" ish). Start sewing from the middle of that and then continue onto the piece you want to sew. The fabric won't get pulled into the plate. And when you finish sewing the piece, finish off onto another small doubled remnant which you will leave under the needle for the next time you sew. Snip the doubled remnant from the beginning of your sewn piece. This remnant can now be used as the finisher for your next line of sewing. I hope this makes sense. I also have the Brother NX 450 and love it.
