Beautiful Clothesline Pics

April 14, 2007 by Tsoniki 9 Comments

I’ve always loved clotheslines. Since leaving home I haven’t been able to have one and I just want one so badly, especially since living in the south! The weather gets so hot, clothes would dry in minutes!

Simple Sparrow started a flickr group for clotheslines this past week. Her post about clotheslines is here.

We have a smaller yard here then we did in WA State, but the difference is we don’t have a fence. And we live in an HOA where I’m fairly sure we aren’t even allowed to have a clothesline. It’s disappointing because I think it would be so fun for the kids to have a line of their own like I did when I was little. We had these round metal u-shaped pipes that were upside down and then there were holes in them for the actual line, and between one ‘u’ there was a string at kid height that was put up when I was little. I would hang doll clothes up or small items that would fit there. And in South Dakota heat, everything would dry so fast. Then we would throw them in the dryer for just a few minutes to soften them up. I admit to not paying attention to the cost of electricity growing up, and I wonder how much money that saved my Mom? My Grandma still hangs her clothes out, or my Uncle does for her.

For now, I have to browse the clothesline flickr groupto see any. I wonder if we put up a fence, if we could get away with a small clothesline?

Thrifting Fun

April 10, 2007 by Tsoniki 6 Comments

One of my complaints about living in the south (at least in my area) is the lack of thrift stores. The only one we have is Goodwill, and there are several, and often there are great finds. But I wanted more, I wanted a thrift store with furniture, with areas sections off filled with items from different people, with another thrift shop right next door.

I’m not sure about the next door part but I found the thrift shopper website! The best part – search by zip code. I entered mine and 10 shops popped up. Of course, seven were goodwill, two were community thrit stores (that I knew about) and only one was new to me. But one more new one is better then nothing. I need to enter surrounding cities to see if there are more listed that are close.

Calling All Scrapbooker’s!

April 3, 2007 by Tsoniki Leave a Comment

A friend (and craft business colleague!) just launched a great new e-book – Everything About Paper. Vera Raposo also owns and operates Scrappers Talk Radio – an internet radio show just for scrappers!

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I am just not a scrapper. I tried and have completed seven or eight pages. My problem (other then the ‘fact’ that pictures belong in an album in order that they were taken 😉 ) is I don’t leave enough room for journaling. And that is what scrapping is all about right? Leaving words and pictures for future generations.

I am interested in a time capsule scrapbook – I’ll have to find the video to share on here, but my friend Marie made a video showing her time capsule book and wow what a great idea! Marie is going to be one of the first guests on my new craft podcast and we’ll be talking about her scrapbooking ideas.

Check out the Everything About Paper ebook, learn everything you can about paper and share your scrapbook pictures so we can all see what you have accomplished.

Latest Kids Project

March 24, 2007 by Tsoniki 20 Comments

A couple of weeks ago we stopped by the craft store and grabbed a couple of Klutz kits. I waver between thinking they are a great deal because they have everything you will need to complete the project and thinking they are expensive. And yes, that’s the coupon loving, clearance shopping part of me talking!

Anyway, we bought the potholder kit and finally opened it up. Alice loves it!

Starting out….

Five rows of weaving and she’s got it!

And this one is done.

She loves it so much she wanted to do more. There is a project in the book that had you make two potholders and then stitch them together to make a purse.

Moving right along…

And in other kid accomplishments – Alice learned how to tie her shoes by herself! This was the first day she did it.

Paper Toy Link

February 11, 2007 by Tsoniki 4 Comments

If you haven’t already, check out TheToyMaker.com. I just found out about the site recently and wow – it is just so fun! I just got the Valentine’s newsletter she sends out and I printed six of the project she sent out. I’m always looking for new stuff for the kids to do. Granted, they are toys made out of paper so who knows how long they will last. LOL But it is quick and easy and fun – and it is free but you can donate.

The site is full of paper projects but I haven’t printed any yet. The newsletter is full of so many other things that they keep us busy.

Have fun!
