Leaves Transformed

July 23, 2007 by Tsoniki 2 Comments

Check out this page showing step by step instructions of how to transform maple leaves into roses! How very cool is that! I particularly love the last picture showing all of the roses with leaves underneath them – what a beautiful centerpiece. I can so see those on a table for a fall wedding!

Hhmmm, ideas, ideas! I’ve been talking about us renewing our vows next year – but we haven’t settled on a date. Part of me wants the spring time and the other part wants it to be closer to our anniversary date. So it’s between April and December – weather wise what bad choices! South Dakota in December – under a blanket of snow. And there is a chance that could happen in April too! Really we have to go on Chris’ work schedule. But these roses made from leaves, great idea and they turn out so nice.

School Supplies

July 19, 2007 by Tsoniki 4 Comments

Everyone knows I am an office and school supply junkie! I was buying school supplies when my daughter was a baby. I just love all the new paper, pens, new products for the year and of course the great sales. This week Target has 64 count crayons (the ones w/ the built in sharpener) and a free twistable crayon (which are SO cool!) on sale for $1.50 – regularly $3.39’ish. I stocked up and bought two of each of my kids as well as a pack for each of my school age nephews and a niece.

Of course with the school year approaching my mind has been working overtime on figuring out what and how to teach Alice first grade. I’m kind of nervous but know that will go away. I’ve been checking out homeschooling books at the library and taking pages of notes, finding new websites and even made a quick stop at a local teacher supply store. I bought a lesson planning book (completely fulfilling the organizer/list maker in me!) and was looking for a calendar yesterday. My brain works differently then some in that my week starts on Sunday – if you look at a lot of calendars and planners many of them start on Monday! I went to two office stores until I finally found one at Barnes and Noble. I do use Google’s calendar, but after having to call the dentist and my dr for a reminder of my appt times, I realized I need a calendar I can carry with me.

In stopping at Office Depot I found 24 count crayons on sale – for 9 CENTS! Yes, NINE cents! Run, don’t walk, to Office Depot right now. You can only buy 5 at a time so I did and so did my friend with me. Only one of her daughters is old enough to play with crayons so I took three of her five packs. Target has the same crayons selling for 20 cents, regular price, not on sale. I thought last year they cost a quarter, but I may be wrong. I already bought some at Target but couldn’t let the nine cent ones pass me up!

I also bought new kid scissors and glue sticks – I’m a huge price checker and Target made me laugh out loud. They have those centers set up with various supplies in them – crayons, pens, pencils, erasers, etc. – and the glue sticks were being sold a 2 pack for twenty cents. Then on the opposite side of the same center a six pack was being sold for $2.19! Hello – a dollar for six or more then twice that. I wonder what I will pick.

It’s time to get the kids school supplies out and see what else we need to replenish. I don’t think we need a lot but I admit it’s hard to stay away from when there is a great sale!

Huge Crafty Blog List

June 11, 2007 by Tsoniki Leave a Comment

I haven’t been reading Rocks In My Dryer (GREAT name, right?) for very long, but today I discovered she has a huge craft blog list! I love finding peoples blog lists – the first time I found one was how I found so many of my favorites.

I spent way too much time this afternoon browsing the listed craft blogs, adding several to my Sage plug in, eventually either deleting them or adding them to my ‘craft blogs’ folder. It’s probably time I go back through my blog reading list as it is huge and kind of out of control.

Remember my promise of pictures? How I need to get the software on the laptop before I can get the pictures off the camera. Well, now my camera is lost. When my Mom was here visiting we went to the beach one day and ever since I can’t find the camera. I know it is here somewhere, probably in plain sight!, but just can’t find it! I’m going to look again today since I haven’t been thinking of it.

Altered Items

May 11, 2007 by Tsoniki 2 Comments

I have been wanting to alter various items for ages now – paint cans, tins, other boxes – and today I finally got my chance. A friend of mine is a Close To My Heart consultant and she had a flip flop and altered paint can class today. The flip flop project was fun and easy (tying ribbon) and the paint can was just as easy (securing paper to the can). She is having various other classes throughout the next few months and I’ve signed up for at least two. I’m really not a scrapbooker – I believe pictures should be in order in an album, and cutting pictures? Ack! – but I can get into smaller projects like small books or altered items. She is even having a class on making a little paper box and a set of cards.

And I have to say I was very impressed that she didn’t badmouth any other companies – I admit I didn’t tell her I am a Stampin’ Up rep, but when others attending said something about SU she said good things about the products. I am glad – I know I would not have been comfortable continuing to take classes from her otherwise. I’ve been to a handful of other parties where the consultant had nothing but bad things to say about a rival company. It never looks good to behave that way.

I’m sure I’ve said it before but pictures are coming soon! I am determined to figure out the software by the weekend.

PS I’m on a weight loss/get healthier journey – join me at Losing My Baby Weight (new design coming soon!).

Podcasts and a Mother’s Day Contest

April 27, 2007 by Tsoniki 2 Comments

Is everyone listening to the crafty podcasts that are out there? I search at least once a week on iTunes to see if anything new has been added but haven’t found anything lately. I’m getting ready to launch a crafty podcast so a new one will be available soon!

My friend Kelly McCausey runs MomsRadioNetwork.com – you can find so much great programming there! My friend Tishia Lee recently launched her show, go give her a listen. I listen to most of the podcasts on that list because I know they are well produced and I can rely on them to publish regularly.

Anyway, Kelly and Moms Radio Network are having a Mother’s Day contest! Check out the flyer for it (it is a pdf) and enter – the grand prize is $100 cash.
