I’ve always loved clotheslines. Since leaving home I haven’t been able to have one and I just want one so badly, especially since living in the south! The weather gets so hot, clothes would dry in minutes!
Simple Sparrow started a flickr group for clotheslines this past week. Her post about clotheslines is here.
We have a smaller yard here then we did in WA State, but the difference is we don’t have a fence. And we live in an HOA where I’m fairly sure we aren’t even allowed to have a clothesline. It’s disappointing because I think it would be so fun for the kids to have a line of their own like I did when I was little. We had these round metal u-shaped pipes that were upside down and then there were holes in them for the actual line, and between one ‘u’ there was a string at kid height that was put up when I was little. I would hang doll clothes up or small items that would fit there. And in South Dakota heat, everything would dry so fast. Then we would throw them in the dryer for just a few minutes to soften them up. I admit to not paying attention to the cost of electricity growing up, and I wonder how much money that saved my Mom? My Grandma still hangs her clothes out, or my Uncle does for her.
For now, I have to browse the clothesline flickr groupto see any. I wonder if we put up a fence, if we could get away with a small clothesline?

I would love having a clothes line! We have a rack we sneak out on the patio (totally banned at our apartment complex!) Nothing beats air drier clothes (softening is nice too!)

I can’t have one either because I live in an apartment – at least I have some what of a backyard so I’m not complaining that much….lol. I remember when I was younger pulling clothes off the clothes line and it having that ‘outside’ fresh smell and a bit of ‘stiffness’ to the clothes. I really enjoyed having towels and sheets hung on the clothesline to dry. Sometimes I miss those days!!!!

I think I spoke too soon – our dryer died today. ๐ I bought a clothesline and am trying to figure out where to rig it up in the house! LOL
No chance hanging anything up outside, we are at the edge of a huge storm so it’s raining and windy out there.

I would have never guessed that there was a Flickr group for clotheslines! And it’s also an interesting coincidence, because I was just thinking how I would like to put one up in the backyard this year to hang all the towels and bathing suits on.
