I’ve picked a word for the year in the past and for this year I pick EMBRACE.
I am going to EMBRACE change (we’ll be moving again at some point), EMBRACE work (I love my podcast and I’m applying for a work from home position), EMBRACE who I am (I’ve never denied being a Native woman, but I also didn’t put it to the forefront of everything, which can sometimes feel stifling), and EMBRACE being creative.
And I’ve probably always been embracing. But now I am moving on to doing so with intention.
I have lots of plans – fantastic people to interview, a wide variety of projects I’m working on and planning, and I can’t wait to share.
When we pick a word to focus on for the year, it helps us pay attention. We can check ourselves, be sure we are on track with our goals, and say no to things that don’t line up.
Do you pick a word each year? What is your word?

I have a rather large set of health problems that interfere with my life. I’m on disability, and I have spent a lot of time just vegetating as I’m too tired, in too much pain, or can’t concentrate. I’ve done a lot of reading and most of my quilting has been vicarious — watching what others do and creating quilts in my head. I want to make a number of changes this year, and your blog is a big impetus to those changes. I’m following your suggestion for A Year of Making (even if I had to settle yesterday for making a ball out of a skein of yarn that I hope to knit into a lace scarf). I like the idea of a word for the year, and what immediately came to mind for me was ACT. Thank you.

ACT is a fantastic word! And the year of making is such a fun thing to participate in. I think it helps remind us that even the small things that we do are still us making something.
