Time Change & Gifts

November 4, 2007 by Tsoniki 6 Comments

Did the time change today throw you off?

I woke up startled because I somehow realized the alarm was still set to go off. Of course after getting up and walking across the room to turn it off, I knew I couldn’t go back to sleep. I figured fine it’s 8:30, I guess that’s late enough – nope, it was 7:30! And I thought weekends were for sleeping in…

I am making decent progress on the craft room! I cleared up the pile of things that do not go in here and I’m sure I’ll find more. I found more scrapbooking items I need to get rid of and started wondering what, if anything, I will be able to take with me when we move. I know I haven’t said anything about the move yet – I will, soon. I was kind of in denial up until this weekend anyway.

Tomorrow I think we are going to work on some gifts and holiday crafts so I doubt there will be much cleaning. The kids both bought a wooden ornament at the craft store and they need to be painted! I need to check my Christmas list one more time – the craft fair is this weekend and I want to make sure I know what I am looking for, or rather who I am looking for. I just have nephews to buy for and two of them I have no idea what to get. I am determined to buy handmade!

Do you have a Christmas list made and have you started your shopping? What are you waiting for!

Halloween Report

November 2, 2007 by Tsoniki 6 Comments

Halloween was fairly uneventful for us. Alice and Jake didn’t get that it was Halloween until I told them late in the afternoon. I should have waited – from the moment I said something they asked every three minutes if it was time to leave yet. It was hard to distract them after that and I know they put their costumes on and took them off at least three times before it was really time for us to go. Alice was upset because the purple hair spray did nothing to her hair! And I sprayed the entire can on her too.

We left before it was totally dark outside, a handful of our neighbors were also out. I love passing out candy and seeing the costumes but there just weren’t a lot of people around. It was odd because last year it seemed that at every house people were home and the same amount was out and about. And we ran out of candy but this year even after we came inside and left the candy on a chair, we still had probably two bags left. Chris took it to work the next day and gave it to his students. The kids still ended up with a lot ~

I don’t think you can tell but they were in the middle of separating all the candy. Of course once that was done, they just put it all back into their bags! They had a great time and were sad that we had to stop when we did. I really wonder where the rest of my neighborhood was?

Did your kids have fun on Halloween? Did you post pictures? Share the link so we can all see!

Photo Book

October 22, 2007 by Tsoniki 6 Comments

So I had this idea – I’m going to go through all the pictures saved of my nephews when they were babies (I’m thinking of the two 8 year olds) and print them out. I probably won’t print all of them but just the ‘good’ ones and I’ll stick them in an album for Christmas. One nephew doesn’t have any pictures of himself as a baby and the other does, but these are pictures I took, and no one but the hard drive ghosts have seen them.

Then I found this ~ Blurb ~ from abby try again (she has a book ordered and they give you a preview link, check hers out if you are interested!). You can upload from Flickr (hhmm, I have a professional account, I can just upload all of my pictures of said nephews) and add text or whatnot from there. And the prices are definitely reasonable – considering I wouldn’t have to spend the time printing, yeah definitely reasonable.

These would be Christmas gifts and would you believe I already have five of seven done or bought for my nephews? Okay I counted two as ideas for these picture books, but that is a pretty good start considering it isn’t even Halloween yet.

Oh! And I could do a picture book of our old house! And one of here, someday. And the vacations we’ve been on. The possibilities!

I should just sell my photo printer, I’ve used it so few times (seriously, I’ve printed maybe six pictures). That’s just not right.

Island Princess Birthday Party

October 20, 2007 by Tsoniki 2 Comments

We went to a Barbie Island Princess birthday party today – it was so cute! I’ve never ordered any set for a birthday party and my neighbor found a pin the crown on the princess game, well it was a stick the crown since it used stickers. They also had a couple of craft kits to make necklaces and bracelets, everyone had a lot of fun with that.

The little girl loves the Disney Princesses so we found a purse and lip gloss pack for her. I figure all little girls that age (the same as Alice) like makeup and sure enough we were right on the money. All the kids had a good time. And since it was so girly, Chris took Jake and had a Daddy/Son day – they played miniature golf and ran to the grocery store to buy some treats.

Alice isn’t into Barbie yet, not really anyway. She likes the Groovy Girls (my personal favorite!) and plays dress up, plays with blocks and cars with Jake and isn’t really attached to any one thing. I hope that continues, I don’t know how to handle an obsession it seems some kids have with Barbie or other dolls.

So we have Barbie as The Island Princess and Groovy Girls – I suppose it is kind of even.

Oh and Alice drew a picture on the top part of the card for the little girl, when she opened the card she said “Oh wow Alice, I didn’t know you could draw so good!” Little kids are so funny.

Action Day

October 15, 2007 by Tsoniki 2 Comments

Today, Oct. 15, 2007, is Blog Action Day – 15,000 bloggers writing about the environment.

All of my life I’ve taken care to take care of the environment. As kids we always cleaned up our street (others weren’t as nice as us about not throwing trash out), sometimes Mom had to talk us into it, sometimes not. Although my brothers and I didn’t start recycleing until we were older, adults living on our own, it’s something we continue to do (I’m always amazed at how much paper we throw out). We changed our lightbulbs to the curly looking ones, the CFLs, turn off lights when we aren’t in the room, wash clothes when there is only a full load and the same with dishes, run errands all in one shot and more.

The high school I attended does a earth week, when most others are celebrating earth day. It was always fun, I was never one to skip a day or two like others did. There was a wide variety of events to sign up for from reporting on the events, cleaning up areas of town, painting, planting, etc.

Crafting is another story – I only halfway use things I have around the house. I have a stock of crafting items but when I go to make something I sometimes realize I don’t have one thing around the house to finish it. Frustrating for me and doesn’t go with the whole use what you have thinking. I am working on being better when it comes to crafting.

Whip Up has a great article written for today, check it out here.
